Privacy Policy

Your privacy matters to us

Last Updated: February 6, 2026

Welcome to Unforkd! We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your data when you use our restaurant discovery application.

1. Information We Collect

Location Data: We collect and store your location coordinates in our database (Amazon DynamoDB) to find restaurants near you through the Yelp Fusion API. This location data is stored permanently but cannot be linked to you personally since we don't collect any identifying information.

Session Data: When you create or join a group session, we store:

  • • Session codes and participant information
  • • Restaurant preferences and voting choices
  • • Session settings (search radius, cuisine preferences, price range)
  • • Voting history and match results

Session data remains in our database but is completely anonymous—there's no way to connect it to any individual user.

Push Notification Tokens: If you opt in to push notifications, we store your device's push notification token to send you updates about session activity (e.g., when all participants have joined or when a match is found). This token is a device identifier and is not linked to any personal information.

Analytics Data: We use PostHog to collect anonymous usage analytics, including:

  • • App features you use and how you interact with them
  • • Device type and browser information
  • • General usage patterns and session duration
  • • Error logs and performance metrics

⚡ Important: Unforkd does not require accounts or login. All data we collect is completely anonymous and cannot be tied to your identity. We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, or any other personally identifiable information.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information to:

  • • Provide restaurant recommendations based on your location
  • • Facilitate group voting sessions
  • • Send push notifications about session updates (if enabled)
  • • Improve app functionality and user experience
  • • Identify and fix technical issues
  • • Understand how users interact with Unforkd

3. Data Sharing and Third Parties

We share limited data with the following third-party services:

Yelp: We share your location coordinates to retrieve restaurant data through the Yelp Fusion API. Please review Yelp's Privacy Policy for details on how they handle data.

PostHog: We share anonymous usage analytics. PostHog does not collect personally identifiable information. Review PostHog's Privacy Policy for more information.

Push Notification Services: We use Apple Push Notification Service (APNs) and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) to deliver push notifications to your device. These services receive your device token to route notifications.

We do not sell, rent, or share your information with other third parties for marketing purposes.

4. Data Storage and Security

We store session and location data in Amazon DynamoDB, a secure cloud database service. This includes your location coordinates, session preferences, and voting history.

Because Unforkd does not use accounts or login credentials, we have no way to identify individual users or link sessions to specific people. All stored data is completely anonymous. This architecture-by-design ensures your privacy.

We implement reasonable security measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, but no internet transmission is 100% secure.

5. Data Retention

Session data, location coordinates, and voting history are retained indefinitely in an anonymized form to help us improve the app experience. Push notification tokens are retained as long as you have the app installed and notifications enabled. Since no data is linked to your identity, there is no personal data to expire or purge.

6. Your Rights and Choices

You have the right to:

  • • Deny location access (note: this will limit app functionality)
  • • Disable push notifications at any time through your device settings
  • • Leave a group session at any time
  • • Clear your app data to remove any locally stored preferences

While we store location and session data, it is completely anonymous and cannot be linked to you personally. Because we don't collect personally identifiable information or use accounts, there is no personal profile to access, modify, or delete. You cannot be identified from the data we store.

7. California and International Users

California Residents (CCPA): Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, request deletion, and opt out of the sale of personal information. Because Unforkd does not collect personally identifiable information, these rights are inherently satisfied. We do not sell any user data.

International Users (GDPR): If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation including the right to access, rectify, and erase personal data. Since Unforkd does not collect personally identifiable information, these rights are inherently met by our anonymized data architecture. Our legal basis for processing anonymous location data is legitimate interest in providing the app's core functionality.

8. Children's Privacy

Unforkd is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected with an updated “Last Updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of Unforkd after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
